The Significance of oral health community outreach: A call to policy makers

Oral health greatly influences nutritional status, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. Despite its importance, many people, especially marginalized groups such as refugees and immigrants, face significant barriers to accessing oral health care. These barriers include financial constraints, lack of awareness, cultural differences, and limited access to healthcare services.

We are delighted to announce that Faridat has been awarded a prestigious Community Health Worker Grant. This grant is a testament to her unwavering dedication to making a meaningful difference in community health. Faridat’s passion for helping others has been evident throughout her work, and this grant will only further enable her to deepen her impact. In addition to funding, the grant requires participants to engage in experiential learning. Faridat now has the opportunity to gain practical experience by either attending in-person sessions across the state or contributing to her local community through volunteer work. Her proactive approach will no doubt further enhance her skills as she continues to serve and uplift the communities around her. We extend our heartfelt congratulations from us here at the Oral Health Program to Faridat and look forward to seeing her continued success as she embarks on this next chapter of her journey. Her work will surely inspire others to take up the cause of community health, and we are excited to see how she will continue to lead the way forward.

Aligned with our mission to provide culturally responsive dental services, education, and referrals to vulnerable populations, this initiative aims to:  Promote better oral health practices  Reduce dental health disparities within Iowa  Emphasize the critical role of dental health in overall well-being In collaboration with our valued partners, Delta Dental of Iowa and Resilience Sustainable Future of Iowa, we will be offering essential dental care to immigrants, underserved communities, and vulnerable populations across the state. The program will also place a strong emphasis on dental health education. By addressing oral health disparities through education, preventive care, and early intervention, this outreach program will contribute significantly to improving the overall health outcomes and quality of life for Iowa's immigrant and underserved communities.
